Francis Vincent Clark was a World War II veteran; he was a son of Herb Clark and Mary Jane (Dowdle) Clark.  He grew up at 7 State Street in Saranac Lake and was a 1938 graduate of Saranac Lake High School, and he also earned a diploma in bookkeeping from Albany Business College. Francis entered the U.S. Army  in 1941 just a few days before the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred and served until 1946.  The remains of Francis Clark are buried in St. Bernard's Cemetery in the Clark family plot.  For a few summers in the late 1950s or early 1960s he worked at the Whiteface Inn Golf Club in Lake Placid.
