Robert Wallace Oddy

SARANAC LAKE - Robert Wallace Oddy Sr., 81, of Barefoot Bay, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at Integrated Health Services, Palm Bay, Fla.

Born in Montreal on April 19, 1921, he was the son of Nathaniel and Annie (MacLeod) Oddy.

A longtime resident of Saranac Lake and Paul Smiths, he was a 1940 graduate of Saranac Lake High School. Mr. Oddy was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the Army.

He had been employed by the Saranac Lake Post Office from 1949 until his retirement as superintendent of postal operations in 1980.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 447 in Saranac Lake and was a member of the Elks Lodge 1508 in Saranac Lake for more than 50 years.

An avid bowler, Bob was the first sanctioned bowler in Saranac Lake to bowl a perfect 300 game.

He and his wife Anita moved from Paul Smiths to Florida in 1984. Bob was a member of the Barefoot Bay Homeowners Association and the lawn bowling club, as well as the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He is survived by his wife, the former Anita Diego of Barefoot Bay; two sons: Robert W. Oddy Jr. of Snug Harbor Lakes, Fla. and John D. Oddy of Brunswick, Ga.; one daughter, Ann Teresa Christensen of Chesapeake, Va.; two sisters: his twin sister Margaret McCabe of Carmel, Calif., and Ellen Loranger of Nashua, N.H.; two brothers, Thomas Oddy of Saranac Lake and John Duncan Oddy of Flagstaff, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister Edith Foster and a brother Angus "Mac" Oddy.

Visitation will be at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept 21, 2002. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Timothy Soucy, pastor of St. Bernard's Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Brighton Cemetery in Gabriels.
