Ethel Jewtraw (nee Kondilis/Kondalis) was a World War II veteran, having served in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps. She received specialist training in administration in Texas during the war. The year after her service in the Army, she was working at the Aris Glove Factory. By the 1950s she was working at Hotel Saranac, and regularly performed musical numbers with coworkers at the company's holiday parties. She acted in the tent theater as a young woman as well. She was married to Richard Jewtraw, and they had one son, Richard. She is buried in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

Ethel J. Jewtraw

Ethel J. Jewtraw, 56, of 15 Forest Hill Ave., died Sunday at an Ogdensburg Hospital.

Mrs. Jewtraw was born in Albany, a daughter of Nicholas and Lilian Kondalis, and had lived in Saranac Lake for 50 years. She served as a WAAC in World War II.

Survivors are her husband, Richard; a son, Richard; a brother Francis Kondalis of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Mrs. Margaret McLaughlin of Saranac Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Tuesday afternoon, beginning at 2:00 p. m. and Tuesday evening at the Fortune Funeral Home. A Bible vigil will be held at 8 p.m. A mass of the Resurrection will be offered at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernard's Church. Internment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.
