Mabel E. Brannock operated a boarding house for the children of tuberculosis patients out of her home at View Street.
David Hanning, who stayed at her house while his father was curing, said that Mrs. Brannock was motherly but firm. She had no staff apart from herself and occasionally her daughter, Ada, when she was not working during summer breaks. Other children staying at the Brannock house during David's stay include John and Jane Chapple, Lawrence "Larry" O'Donnel, and Teddy Brinkman.
