Mrs. Merilda Gladd

LAKE CLEAR -- Merilda Gladd, 87, of the Airport Trailer Park, Lake Clear, died Monday, Feb. 23, at the Mercy Healthcare Center in Tupper Lake.

She was born Jan. 10, 1900, in Ormstown, Quebec, the daughter of Joseph and Adoriska (Schinck) LaMare.

She married Lee G. Gladd, on Oct. 22, 1918, at [Bernard's Church] in Saranac Lake. Along with her husband, she owned and operated the Broadway Deli in Saranac Lake for 15 years until 1972.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Gladd is survived by three sons, Francis, Richard and Ronald, all of Saranac Lake; four daughters, Margaret Kentile of Lake Clear, Doris Farrell of Tupper Lake, and Jean Duso and Shirley Harvey, both of Saranac Lake, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Other survivors include three brothers, Maurice and Leon LaMare, both of Tupper Lake, and Israel LaMare of Saranac Lake; a sister, Irene Curran of Roxbury, Mass., and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gladd was predeceased by a son, Robert, and a daughter, Marion.

There will be no calling hours. A mass of Christian burial will be said at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake.

Cremation will follow, with burial in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

Donations in Mrs. Gladd's memory may be made to the Saranac Lake Resuce Squad in care of the Fortune Funeral Home in Sananac Lake, which is in charge of the arrangements.
