Herbert Donaldson, 84, dies

SARANAC LAKE -- Herbert Donaldson, 84, of 93 Forest Ave., died Sunday evening at the Saranac Lake General Hospital.

Born in Chateaugay Lake, he was the son of Lansing and Nancy (Montgomery) Donaldson.

He attended Malone schools and graduated from Cornell University in 1917. He was a charter member of the Malone Elks Club and a 50 year member of the American Legion. He spent his entire working career in the shoestore business from salesman to owner and manager.

He had been employed by the Endicott-Johnson shoe store in Saranac Lake.

He was a Navy veteran of World War I and World War II.

His survivors include his wife, the former Doris LaBounty, who he married in 1920. Also surviving is a son, H. Lansing Donaldson of Potsdam, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m. today at the Fortune Funeral Home with the Rev. Lester Loder officiating. Interment is to be in Morningside Cemetery in Malone in May.
