Helen Haley (née Hoeschele) came to Ray Brook for treatment of tuberculosis in the late 1920s. She was listed as a patient at Ray Brook in the 1930 census, and had been there for three years. Her cure was unsuccessful and she died in Utica in 1932. She had two daughters and two sons with her husband James. Her twin sister Mary "Mayme" Hoeschele also had tuberculosis and came to Ray Book.
