Louise Merkel Bellaire moved to Saranac Lake from Portland, Oregon, in 1951. She was one of the first employees of North Country Community College, serving as assistant to the president for many years. She also served on the school and hospital boards, participating in the consolidation of the General Hospital of Saranac Lake with Lake Placid Memorial Hospital to form the Adirondack Medical Center. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. For many years, she lived at 95 Forest Hill Avenue.
