McColloms Hotel had a small golf course, built by Clarence McArthur in 1895. The hotel was near where the cemetery is now. The holes ranged from 156 to 226 yards long. They were satisfactory until 1932 when some were lengthened and relocated. In 1941 the state road was rebuilt, cutting into two of the fairways. The hotel closed during the war years and the course was abandoned. According to Adirondack Golf Courses . . . Past and Present by J. Peter Martin, [Rice], a sports celebrity, and F. G. Fargo of Wells Fargo Express Co. stayed at the McColloms Hotel in 1918.
