Joseph Higgins was proprietor of the Pharmacy.  He is buried in the Pine Ridge Cemetery; a note on his burial record indicates that he was a TB patient.  A cottage at 7 Woodland Avenue was known as the Joseph Higgins Cottage in 1912.

Saranac Lake lost one of its prominent citizens Thursday, Joseph R. Higgins, proprietor of the Pharmacy. He had been in falling health for some time.

He was a member of the Malone Lodge of Elks and a prominent Mason.
