Benjamin Monty. In Dr. Trudeau 's Autobiography (page 107), he calls his guide "Ben Monte": "I hunted hares by myself that first winter at Paul Smith's, and when I varied that sport by fox hunting I usually sent for Ben Monte. He would appear with three lean and yelping hounds and we would have a fox hunt together."

Monty is buried in St. John's Cemetery in Paul Smiths, memorialized thus: "In Memory of a hunter, trapper and guide in the mountains 50 years."
