A Facebook user writes: "There was a large TB sanitorium up beyond our house on Main Street in Bloomingdale known as Sunset Rock. It apparently was profitable enough for the owners to build a mansion on Main Street just west of the four corners intersection by Norman's Store. The mansion has since been converted to apartments. The sanatorium had a series of fires that reduced the number of rooms available and eventually closed just after WWI."

Charles Wardner has leased his Bloomingdale property, Sunset Rock cottage, to Charles Delancett of Tupper Lake. Mr. Delancett is a hotel man of experience. He expects to open the place to the public as soon as it is thoroughly renovated and refurnished.

It is possible that the new government hospital for sick and disabled soldiers may be located near Bloomingdale. A committee inspected the most available site last week and were favorably impressed with it. “Sunset Rock,” as it is called, is on an eminence overlooking Bloomingdale and giving one of the finest views of mountain scenery to be found anywhere in the Adirondacks. It is the property of Charles Wardner and the house has been used as a private sanitarium.

BLOOMINGDALE
Several from here attended the funeral of Lyman Leavitt at his home in Gabriels last Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Leavitt was at one time a resident of this place, his parents being one of the pioneer families to settle here, on the farm where [Rock Cottage] now stands. Mr. Leavitt was a much respected citizen, a good friend and neighbor, and will he missed by the people in the community. He leaves several sons and daughters, his wife having died several years ago.

During the, week another fire broke out at Sunset Rock, which is owned by Charles Wardner of Lake Clear Inn. While the tenant, Mrs. O. Cook, was gathering and burning some rubbish about the place, sparks went in to the dry grass nearby and ignited, spreading swiftly over the ground to several acres. The Bloomingdale fire department arrived and could not put the fire out as a fire hydrant was not located at the point which was about a mile away from the village. Thomas E. Derby of Norman Ridge who is the district forest ranger, brought a pump to extinguish the fire. Sunset Rock cottage is located in back of Mrs. Martin Emmons farm on Maple street, and it was feared that the fire would spread there, but it failed to do so owing to the pump.
