What it covers: A memoir by Isabel Smith who was diagnosed with tuberculosis at twenty, when she was working as a student nurse in New York City.  She was treated by Dr. Francis Berger Trudeau, son of the founder of the Adirondack Cottage Sanitarium . Her cure wavered between recovery and collapse for twenty-one years, as she underwent the three types of therapy for TB- rest cure, surgery, and finally drugs. During this time she fought against self-absorption, and learned to value the beauty of the mountains and to make friends among patients and outsiders.
