Sarah Merrill Fitzgerald, with her husband, James J. Fitzgerald, ran Ridgewood Villa on the Harrietstown Road. She was the second child of Jeremiah Degroff Merrill and his second wife, Louisa Washburn Merrill (1829-1908) of Merrillsville. Sarah is buried in the Harrietstown Cemetery. 

Herbert Scholfield, a TB patient, came to live with the Fitzgeralds in 1892 when he was 16 years old, where "for many years he was as one of the family."
