Ambrose C. Smith

SARANAC LAKE - Ambrose C. Smith of 17 Charles Street died Wednesday evening at the Saranac Lake General Hospital.

He was born in Lake Placid on January 29, 1913, a son of George and Mary Ellwell Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Moody, whom he married in 1943, a step-son, Harrison Wood, Jr. of Plattsburgh; a granddaughter, Lorraine Wood of Plattsburgh; three brothers, George and Richard of Lake Placid, Ernest of Philadelphia, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Mary Wemett of Lake Placid, and several nieces and nephews.

He had been a resident for 33 years and was employed at Sunmount Veteran's Hospital until his retirement.

There will be calling hours at the Fortune Funeral Home from 7-9 on Friday and from 2-4 and 7-9 on Saturday. The funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church with the Rev. Eric King, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery.
