BOULDER, Colo. -- Alison Kellagher died May 4, 2010 as a result of head injuries sustained in a cycling accident in Boulder, Colo.

Alison was born on Sept. 24, 1954 in Saranac Lake, the daughter of Joan and William Harvey.

Alison, known as Penny Harvey growing up in Saranac Lake, was a champion athlete in both cycling and Nordic skiing, competing as a member of the United States Women's Cycling team both nationally and internationally.

Alison graduated from the Northfield-Mount Hermon school in Massachusetts, earned her bachelor's degree at SUNY New Paltz and her master's degree at Naropa University in Boulder. She was a licensed psychotherapist who did pioneering work for 10 years in the filed of benzodiazapine addition and recovery, touching countless lives with her gentle skill and loving kindness.

Alison leaves behind her wonderful husband of 30 years, Bill Kellagher, of Boulder; her mother, Joan Harvey of Fort Myers, Fla.; her sisters: Jennifer Harvey of Prince George, British Columbia and Erica Halaburda of Renton, Wash.; nieces Freya and Daphne Morgen, and nephew Morgan Halaburda, all of the San Francisco Bay Area.

She was predeceased by her father, William Harvey, in 1995.

A beautiful memorial service was held in Boulder on May 22 under a perfect blue Colorado sky.
