Of Local Interest

Claude S. Weaver, of Saranac Lake, who went there from Albany for lung trouble, has been adjudged insane by Dr. Hatchins of the St. Lawrence State Hospital, and Dr. R. J. Wilding of Malone, and will be treated at the hospital. He has had a mania for taking telegraph and telephone instruments, and a short time ago took some from the Ampersand, Algonquin, and Del Monte Hotels, which he afterwards admitted. On no other theory could the thefts be accounted for than insanity.

Adjudged Insane

Claude A. Weaver of Saranac Lake, was adjudged insane here on Monday by a commission consisting of Dr. Hutchins, of the State Hospital at Ogdensburg, and Dr. R. J. Wilding of Malone. The young man, who is but 18 years of age and has only been married a few months, is a native of Albany, became afflicted with long trouble and his people brought him to Saranac Lake; hoping that he would be benefited by the change. A short time ago the Ampersand, Del Monte and Algonquin hotels were burglarized but strangely only telegraph and telephone instruments were taken. For a time it was impossible to locate the offender, but finally suspicion pointed to Weaver and he was arrested. He acknowledged taking the instruments, and, as they were of no possible use to him, it was thought he must be insane and the examination proved the theory correct. He will be taken to Ogdensburg for treatment.
