Dry Island

|, c. 1902) ]] Dry Island, also called called it "Cow Island", is a ten acre, wooded island in Upper Saranac Lake, about a quarter of a mile south of the site of the Saranac Inn. It is privately owned.
This island, adjacent to Tommy's Rock, was auctioned off by Saranac Inn when the Inn went out of business in the early 1960s. Prior to that, when the Inn owned it, it was open to visitors. It was a favorite spot for children to pick wild blueberries when it was open to the public.

2013-07-14 09:47:58 This island, adjacent to Tommy's Rock, was auctioned off by Saranac Inn when the Inn went out of business in the early 1960s. Prior to that, when the Inn owned it, it was open to visitors. I remember that we as children, picked wild blueberries each summer on Dry Island (some called it "Cow Island") until the Inn sold it into private hands and it was thereafter posted "no trespassing". In all, the Saranac Inn sold off Dry Island, Tommy's Rock and Goose Island on Upper Saranac. Only Tommy's Rock is still open to the public after the Saranac Inn Association bought it back and re-opened it to those of us who have, since childhood, loved jumping from its 'cliff'. —98.118.86.183
