FIRE DESTROYS F. BAILEY CAMP
Fred Bailey, ardent Saranac Lake sportsman, lost his guns, fishing equipment and clothing along with all other camp equipment in a fire that destroyed his camp on the Saranac River last evening.
Due to the alertness of Edmund and Milo Moody, fire wardens on the river, the fire was checked before spreading into the forest.
The camp is located on the left shore of the Saranac River just below the lower locks.
Mr. Bailey, who had been in camp during the day, was out on the water in his boat when he saw the blaze about 5:30 p. m. He does not know how it started.
Forest Rangers Jimmy Ducatt, Frank Bomyea and James Bickford hurried to the scene, but before they could arrive the building had burned to the ground.
The camp, a 24 by 19 foot wooden structure with a tin roof, was owned by Mr. Bailey for seven years. It was insured for $2000, but the owner does not feel that the insurance can begin to cover the loss.
Mr. Bailey, employed by Newman and Holmes, is a fire warden for the Conservation Department. He received several minor burns trying to salvage his belongings.
