Gerard Doherty came to Trudeau Sanatorium with tuberculosis mid-way through his football career at Harvard College. He cured for two years, and returned to Harvard, graduating in 1952. He went on to a [career in politics], including serving as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1957 to 1965 and Chairman of the Massachusetts Democratic Party from 1962 to 1967. He ran political campaigns for both Lyndon B. Johnson (in Massachusetts) and Robert F. Kennedy (in Indiana).
Betty Kelly Gaffney recalled "cousining" with "Gerry" while they were both curing at Trudeau in the late 1940s.1
