Leon E. Fredericks Sr.

Leon E. Fredericks Sr., 78, of Gabriels, died Wednesday, April 13, 1994 at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont, after a short illness.

Born Dec. 8, 1915 in Moria, he was the son of William C. And Emma (Vander Bogart) Fredericks. In 1940, he married F. Leola Alexander at the St. Regis Presbyterian Mance.

Mr. Fredericks worked for many years for D. Cohen at the Bloomingdale store and later for Ruth and Rene Block in Lake Placid for 25 years, retiring in 1981. A member of the Adirondack Presbyterian Church, he had worked with the youth group and had served as an elder. He was an ardent sports fan, enjoying football, basketball, baseball and NASCAR racing.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Leon E. Jr. of Lake Placid; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Kathy) DeMaro of Saranac Lake; a brother, Eugene, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and five grandchildren: Cheri Lyons, Shellie and Shawn Fredericks of Lake Placid; Lisa DeMaro of Saranac Lake; and Jamie DeMaro of Pensacola, Fla.

Seven brothers and three sisters predeceased him.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Adirondack Presbyterian Church in Keeses Mills, with the Rev. James Hutton officiating. Internment will be in Brighton Cemetery in May.

Memorial donations may be made to the Adirondack Presbyterian Church and to the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service, in care of the funeral home.
