Former Resident of Clintonville Dies
Funeral of Louis Boprey, 72, veteran horseman who drove the Adirondack stage coach between Ausable Forks and Saranac Lake 40 years ago, were held in St. Bernard's church, Saranac Lake, Thursday. A solemn requiem mass was offered by Rev. Dean Clarence Kitts, pastor. Burial took place in Keeseville cemetery(sic). Mr. Boprey died in the Saranac Lake General hospital March 10.
He was born Oct. 11, 1868 in Clintonville, the son of the late Louis and Mary Boprey. He married Miss Mary Bigwood of that village who died several years ago. The couple had one son, Leo Boprey, who died.
Mr. Boprey worked for the late Richard Johnson and for the Johnson estate for more than 50 years. He was employed first at Clintonville and later in Saranac Lake. He also operated the Johnson stables, located near the old Riverside Inn. After automobiles took the place of horses he became caretaker for the properties of Mrs. Richard Johnson.
Mr. Boprey had a wealth of Adirondack lore in his collection and was known throughout Northern New York. There are no immediate relatives but a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Leo Boprey of Tarrytown, came here to be at his bedside during his last illness.
