Marie McCartney, 99

Marie S. McCartney, 99, of Park Street, Tupper Lake and most recently of Mercy Healthcare Center died there Tuesday, December 13, 2005.

She was born in Saranac Lake, May 4, 1906, the daughter of Robert and Anne (Murphy) Sadler.

Marie grew up in Saranac Lake and completed her education at Saranac Lake High School.

On January 7,1928 she and James Rae Watson McCartney of Huntington Quebec were married in Saranac Lake.

They made their home in Saranac Lake and Watertown, prior to coming to Tupper Lake in 1937. Mrs. McCartney was proud of being a Pioneer telephone operator.

Her great love was for her family and entertaining her friends at bridge.

As a young lady she skied the slopes below Mt. Morris. In her retirement Marie kept busy in her son and daughter-in-law's clothing store.

She is survived by her son, James Jr. and his wife, Judy of Tupper Lake; three grandsons, James McCartney III and his wife, Tricia of Plattsburgh; Gregory McCartney and his wife, Andrea, of Syracuse; Eric McCartney and his wife, Erin of New Paltz, NY; one granddaughter, Melissa Mitchell and her husband, James of Menands, NY; eight great-grandchildren, Sean, James IV, Meghan, Michael, Aidan, Nathaniel, Colin and Quinn.

She was predeceased by her husband, her grandson, Michael, three sisters, Ethel Harvey, Jane Jette, Myrtle Williams and one brother, Percy Sadler.

Friends called at the Richer Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 14.

A funeral Mass was held at St. Alphonsus Church on Thursday, December 15.

Memorials may be made to the Mercy Healthcare Center or the Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks.
