Mountain Mist Custard

Mountain Mist was started in 1951 by the Freeman Family who ran the Marina.
The architect who designed the stand immediately went to Long Lake and made a twin building called Custard’s Last Stand. They are identical. The Florida ceiling windows are angled so that when cars pulled in their headlights would reflect it down to the ground.
Sometime in the 1970’s, they sold to the Keoughs. They added food to the menu in the late 70s and ran it until Charlie Keogh passed away in 2001.
It was sold to the Fogarty family who still own it as of 2026.
The Clown is also part of the original stand, and it was originally painted by Arto Monaco who created for Santa's Workshop in Wilmington.
In about 2014 their niece took on the project to make the Clown two sided. They cut the new Clown out carbon copy from the original. Now it can be seen either coming from Lake Placid or from town.
