Sherman Durett Dies

Sherman A. Durett, 49, of Bloomingdale, father of eight children, was crushed, and killed early yesterday afternoon by a tree he was cutting near the Loon Lake Rd., at Lake Kushaqua.

Mr. Durett was working on a lumbering job with his son, Forrest, on the White Fathers Seminary property.

Forrest was about forty yards away when he heard the tree fall but noticed that the chain saw continued to run. When he got to his father's side he found him pinned under a 21-inch diameter spruce.

Dr. Harold Greenier of Bloomingdale was called and ordered Mr. Durett taken to the Saranac Lake General Hospital by ambulance. However, the injured man died before reaching there.

Dr. Richard P. Bellaire, Franklin County coroner, said death was due to injuries of the chest and abdomen.

Mr. Durett is survided by his wife, the former Shirley River, and his children are Forrest, Joann, Rosemary, Michael and Mitchell (twins), George, Patrick and Jeffrey, all living at home.

Also surviving are three brothers. George and Howard of Saranac Lake and Albert of Hamburg, N.C., and one sister Mrs. Lena Gonyo of Plattsburgh.

Mr. Durwett was born July 2, 1910 at Morrisonville, the son of Forrest and Rose Siddon Durett.
