WEST MILFORD, N.J.--Teresa R. Eshelman, 91, formerly of Alder Brook and currently of West Milford, N.J., died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2021, at her home.
Born in Alder Brook on February 2, 1921, she was the daughter of John and Marguerite (Buckley) Ryan. She married Clarence Fred Eshelman on March 15, 1942, in Gouverneur. He predeceased her on April 27, 2000.
Teresa was a resident of Alder Brook from 1977 through 2007, moving there from Union, N.J. She moved to the Chelsea at Bald Eagle in West Milford, N.J., in 2007. After World War II, she spent a number of years in post-war Germany with her husband who was serving in the U.S. military at the time as a part of the effort to rebuild Germany. She served on the Board of Trustees for the St. Rose Cemetery in Alder Brook and volunteered at the Franklin Food Co-op. She also served as town Historian for the town of Franklin and worked for the Franklin Town Court for many years.
She is survived by one daughter, Bonita O'Connor of Pompton Plains, N.J.; one son, Fred Eshelman of Schroon Lake; two brothers: Raymond Ryan of Cazenovia and Bernard Ryan of Queensbury; three sisters: Marguerite Zerrer of Naples, Fla., Barbara Jean Burns of Atlanta, Ga., and Joan Oderkirk of Batavia; five grandchildren: Heather Eshelman McCusker of Pennington, N.J., Scott Eshelman of Chevelry, Md., John Hankin of Morristown, N.J., Pamela Hankin of Pompton Plains, N.J., and Walter Hankin of Pompton Plains, N.J.; two great grandchildren: Logan and Ezra Hankin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and seven brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake. Burial was in St. Rose Cemetery in Alder Brook.
