Will Rogers Statue

From Historic Saranac Lake Wiki

When Will Rogers died in 1935, the Pioneer Fund bought the National Vaudeville Artist Home and in 1936 renamed it the Will Rogers Memorial Hospital.

As a tribute to Will Rogers, his friend and sculptor Jo Davidson (who lived in France at that time) created a plaster cast that was sent to the United States.  The plaster cast was then placed in the newly named Will Rogers Memorial Hospital on a pedestal now painted a bronze color.

The cast was used to create two Bronze Statue, which are still displayed, one at the Claremore Will Rogers Museum and the other one is in Washington D.C. in the National Statuary Hall at the Capitol Building.

The Statue was removed when the Hospital closed and is in storage by the Will Rogers Institute.
