SARANAC<span> <span>LAKE<span> <span>-<span> <span>A<span> <span>Saranac Lake man was killed last night after he and his son were struck by a tractor<span> <span>trailer<span> <span>while<span> <span>fighting<span> <span>on<span> <span>a downtown street.

Walter F. Nagengast, Jr., 42, of <span>[[6%20James%20Street| ]]<span>[[6%20James%20Street|St.]] was pronounced<span> <span>dead<span> <span>at the<span> <span><span><span><span><span><span><span>[[General%20Hospital%20of%20Saranac%20Lake| Lake]]. His son, Michael K. Nagengast, 23,<span> <span>also<span> <span>of<span> <span>6 James<span> <span>St.,<span> <span>suffered numerous<span> <span>sprains,<span style=""> <span>abrasions<span> <span>and contusions in the accident, but refused admittance to the hospital.

According to village police, the two began fighting in [[Dr.%20Y's%20tavern|Dr. Y's]] bar shortly before 10:30 p.m. After the fight was stopped by bar employees the two left the bar and resumed the brawl in the street<span style=""> <span>on<span style=""> <span>Broadway.<span> <span>They<span> <span>were struck<span> <span>by<span> <span>a<span> <span>north<span> <span>bound<span> <span>truck operated by Thomas R. Lincoln, 35, of [[Ray%20Brook|Ray Brook]].

Police say<span> <span>the truck<span> <span>was<span> <span>not exceeding the speed limit at the time of the accident. No charges have been placed against Lincoln.

Michael Nagengast was charged by police<span> <span>with<span> <span>disorderly<span> <span>conduct.<span> <span>He was released on his own recognizance pending<span> <span>an<span> <span>appearence<span> <span>in<span> <span>village court on Dec. 13.

Police say the investigation into the accident<span> <span>is<span> <span>continuing<span> <span>and<span> <span>further criminal charges are pending.

The Walter Nagengast Sr. was the former owner of [[The%20Birches|The Birches]], a Ray Brook tavern.
