Services set for James R. McCartney Sr.
TUPPER LAKE ——Funeral services have been set for James R. McCartney Sr., 83, of 302 Park St., who died Wednesday evening, Dec. 14, at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake.
Calling hours will take place from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Richer Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Alphonsus Church, with the Rev. Ward Letteney officiating.
Burial will be in the spring in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
Mr. McCartney was born Sept. 19, 1905, in Huntingdon, Quebec, the son of Charles and Elizabeth (MacMillan) McCartney.
He was married to Marie Sadler on Jan. 7, 1928, in Saranac Lake. She survives.
Mr. McCartney became a Prudential Insurance agent in Saranac Lake. He was promoted to staff manager at the cornpany's Watertown office in 1936 and was then transferred to Tupper Lake to be staff manager at the office here in 1937. He retired in 1966 after 37 years with the company.
He was a longtime member and past president of the Tupper Lake Lion's Club. He was also a proud member of the National Rifle Association.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, James R. McCartney Jr., and four grandchildren: James III, principal of St. Bernard's School in Saranac Lake, Gregory and Eric, both of Syracuse, and Melissa of Tupper Lake. Also surviving is a sister, Marion Roberts of Montreal.
Donations in Mr. McCartney's memory may be made to the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad.
