Kinsolvings, Including Actor Son, Come Up For Skiing Holiday

Mrs. Arthur Lee Kinsolving, Sr., has known the Adirondacks all her life, but mostly the summertime Adirondacks at the camp of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Blagden, on Upper Saranac Lake .

This winter she, her four children, and their friends (there were ten in the party altogether New Year's Eve), came up for skiing. They are staying at Lake Clear Inn. Mrs. Kinsolving's husband could not get away from his duties as pastor of St. James Episcopal Church in New York City.

One of her children, Arthur Lee Kinsolving, Jr., flew from Hollywood where he has appeared in several TV films. Lee, as the family call him, is 20 years old.

After his freshman year at Trinity College he played with a theatrical stock company at Mt. Kisco "and decided acting was his dish," his mother said. A Broadway scout saw him and liked what he saw and helped him get a part in the play, Winesburg, Ohio, by Sherwood Anderson.

The play ran for three weeks. Last summer Lee had better luck in Hollywood, appearing in small parts in such TV shows as Have Gun Will Travel, Playhouse 90, and Pursuit.

Gus, 19, is a sophomore at Yale; Anne is 16 and Tom is 10. The Kinsolvings "discovered" the winter Adirondacks last winter when they also stayed at Lake Clear Inn.

Mrs. Kinsolving said they particularly enjoy skiing Pisgah.

Of her parents, she said they live now in Wessyngton, Tenn., on Mrs. Blagden's family place. Her maiden name was Ann Washington (Wessyngton is the old spelling), and she is the seventh generation to have lived at the family estate.

Mrs. Blagden's paternal grandparents, incidentally, Thomas Blagden and Helen Rich, met at Indian Carry on Upper Saranac in 1870. After their marriage they lived for a while near Saranac Inn in a cottage where Grover Cleveland spent his honeymoon and later built their own camp, Deerwood, which became the Deerwood Music School. The Blagdens' present camp is also on Upper Saranac.
