Former School Nurse Teacher Remembered

By CHRIS KNIGHT Senior Staff Writer

SARANAC LAKE - Saranac Lake Central School District officials paid tribute to the late Vera Finegan at Wednesday night’s meeting of the Board of Education. The school board unanimously approved a resolution of condolence to the family of Finegan, who died Oct. 12 at the age of 80. Finegan worked as a school nurse teacher for the district for 49 years, from 1945 until 2004.

Superintendent Gerald Goldman said Finegan’s longevity with the district was remarkable.

“I don’t know if we keep official records on this, but I think Vera probably worked for our school system longer than any other district employee,” he said.

The board’s resolution says Finegan made “a significant and lasting contribution” to the school district and the community, and was “a positive influence in the lives of hundreds of students” during her tenure.

A copy of the resolution will be provided to Finegan’s family.
