About Town
From the 1928 Files of the Enterprise - “Man Critically Injured by Saw Clings to Life — George Lashway, 54, of 41 Charles Street, was injured yesterday when a buzz saw broke while he was cutting wood. His recovery has been all but despaired of. The entire side of his face was opened and his nose was severed by the saw. If he lives it will probably be due to an emergency operation performed by Dr. Edward Welles.
Sons of Lashway were working with their father when he was hurt. The saw, attached to a shaft, gave way without warning and sections of it flew in several directions.
The piece that struck Lashway continued through the air and landed in the yard of a next door neighbor.”
(Mr. Lashway’s son said today that his father lived several years after the accident although Dr. Welles said he couldn’t understand how anyone who was injured so severely could even breathe.)
